After the overwhelming success of our event in November 2023 on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the end of the fighting on the Ebro, we have planned another meeting in La Fatarella for 2024 in consultation with our partner association Lo Riu on the weekend of November 2nd/3rd, 2024.
The focus will be on installing more plaques in the “Bosque de la memoria Jordi Banqué”. In terms of content, we particularly want to remember the heroic contribution of women, i.e. if possible, install several new plaques for women.
After the relatives, the KFSR board and the Lo Riu association have agreed, we would like to take this opportunity to officially associate the Bosque de la memoria with the name of Jordi Banqué.
The idea for the “Forest of Remembrance” came about at the end of the 1990s as part of an EU project in collaboration with representatives of the town halls in La Fatarella and Corbera de Ebre as well as the then international association “Tierra de Germanor” and the KFSR e.V., which was in charge of Jordi Banqué was represented. The first plaques were installed in 2003. So far, 87 plaques have been installed for people from 12 countries. Until his death in 2023, our comrade Jordi Banqué did everything he could to ensure the success of this project.
Christiane Mathejka, Stefan Loibl and Ulrike Rom will continue this path in proven collaboration with Lo Riu.
